  • Minted Antoninus Pius' 4th (Greek, L ∆) Alexandrian year = 140/1 CE.

  • This Demeter bust reverse type is notable as this date appears to be only example for the Alexandrian series for any emperor (corrections to this statement are welcome).  

  • Certified by NGC to VF.

  • Obverse: laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. 

  • Reverse: draped and veiled bust of Demeter right, wearing modius, torch behind her left shoulder.

  • Demeter in the ancient Greek religion was daughter of the deities Cronus and Rhea, sister and consort of Zeus (the king of the gods), and goddess of agriculture. Her name indicates that she is a mother.
