  • Rare left facing portrait type struck for Emperor Titus (79-81 CE) at the Rome Mint.

  • Dated: TR P IX IMP XV COS VIII = 1 January to 1 July 80 CE.

  • RIC 22b; RSC 304, approx 17mm.

  • One of the 12 Caesars (eldest son of Emperor Vespasian & older brother of Emperor Domitian) with a short reign as Emperor from 79 to 81 CE.

  • Significant historic events of Titus' reign were the dedication of the Coliseum, the eruption of Vesuvius and the destruction of Pompeii.
