Germany silver 5 mark coin minted in 1968 at Munich (D mint mark) to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Max v. Pettenkofer's birth.
Beautiful, fully lustrous proof with matt and mirror surfaces. Some mild hairlines are noted.
Pettenkofer was a chemist and has been named as the father modern hygenics.
Coin's incused edge lettering translates to "hygene removes contaminants at their source".
- His first experience with chemicals was in alloying gold for minting operations at the Munich mint (where this coin was made). He was later promoted to be Chief of the Royal Chemists.
