  • Minted at Emesa between 193 to 196 CE during the reign of her husband Emperor Septimius Severus.
  • Superb style younger portrait for Emesa, legend font in distinctive Eastern Mint style.
  • Approx. 16x18mm 3.22g, RIC 625 (rated as Scarce), RSC 66. 
  • Certified by NGC to AU, colorfully toned with considerable underlying luster, beautiful in hand.

  • Obverse: JULIA DOMNA AVG, draped bust right with hair braided in waves and tucked into a large chignon.
  • Reverse: FORTVN REDVCI, Fortuna standing left holding grain ears & cornucopia.
  • Fortuna was the goddess of fortune and the personification of luck in Roman religion. This likely alludes to the hoped for "luck" in the civil wars then being waged with Pescennius Niger and then Clodius Albinus.
