Mint State Uncirculated Mexico silver silver 8 reales coin.
Struck at the Guanajuato Mint (mint mark Go), assayer FR.
The coinage of 8 Reales at Guanajuato was suspended during 1871 and 1872, while the mint produced Balance Scale peso coins. Sometime in 1873, probably later in the year the Balance Scale Peso was discontinued. When the 8 Reales coinage was resumed, new dies were introduced. The most important featue of this die is that the o in the mintmark was removed from the inside of the G and placed as a superscript to the right of the G. This form of mintmark would remain until the mint closed.
