  • Reverse colorfully dark toned.
  • Variety with horizontal o in mint mark.
  • Dunigan Ho12: "Scarce, particularly in decent condition. By far the most difficult date of the 1870s to obtain in nice condition. Most specimens are low grade and chopmarked. Unlike most coins of the late 1860s, the 1870 does not seem to have been very well struck, which adds to the problem of finding nice examples."
