Almost Uncirculated Mexico silver peso coin minted at Mexico City (Mo mintmark).
Minted for Maximilian I the only monarch of the Second Mexican Empire. He was a younger brother of the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph I. After a distinguished career in the Austrian Navy as its commander, he accepted an offer by Napoleon III of France to rule Mexico, conditional on a national plebiscite in his favor.
The Second Empire also introduced the decimal system (centavos & pesos) to Mexican coinage.
Certified by NGC to AU 58, highly lustrous cartwheel surfaces (no toning). A few marks are keeping this coin from MS grade.
