Represents an interesting part ofPortuguese history. Upon the death of John VI in 1826, Terceira Island supported Pedro (Brazilian Emperor and oldest son of John VI) for thePortuguese throne in opposition to Miguel who was proclaimed king in 1828. Terceira forces invaded Portugal and defeated Miguel in 1834. Maria da Gloria (daughter of Pedro) was proclaimed Queen of Portugal.
