  • Struck for Emperor Marcus Aurelius at the Rome Mint.
  • Dated: TR P XX IMP IIII = Summer to Dec 166 CE (single year date is unusual).
  • Approx. 19mm, 3.49g, RIC 159, RSC 435.
  • Mature fully bearded portrait, well struck, centered with full legends and luster.
  • Certified by NGC XF Strike 3/5 Surface 3/5 cleaned.
  • Obverse: M ANTONINVS AVG ARM PARTH MAX, laureate head facing right.  
  • Reverse: PAX in ex. TR P XX IMP IIII COS III, Pax standing left holding branch and cornucopia.
  • Pax was the goddess and personification of peace. 
  • Apparently a commemorative type to celebrate peace after the hard fought victories over the Parthians. VIC PAR types also minted during this date period.
