  • Struck for Q. Antonius Balbus c. 83/82 BC at the Rome Mint.

  • Crawford 364/1, S-279, approx 19mm, 3.90g.

  • Well struck and centered with lustrous and reflective surfaces, beautiful in hand.

  • Historic type: This is the principal coinage of the faction opposed to the return of Sulla to Rome. Balbus strikes as praetor by special decree of the Senate (Senatus Consulto) with the reverse Victory type anticipating success of the anti-Sulla faction.
