  • Reverse: The Puteal Scribonianum ornamented with garland between two lyres and coinage hammer, PVTEAL above, SCRIBON in ex.

  • The Puteal Scribonianum was a small enclosure in the Roman Forum originally built to protect a sacred spot. Later it became the haunt of moneylenders, hence the appearance of coining implements at the base of the monument. This example depicts a coin hammer used in the minting process.
