  • Struck for Octavian (later Augustus) as sole Imperator at an Italian mint.
  • RIC 256, Foss 8 (attributed to 29 BC), S-1553, approx 20mm, 3.89g, issued c. 31-30 BC.
  • Certified by NGC to F, Strike 5/5, Surface 3/5 Bankers Marks.
  • Rare anepigraphic obverse with head of winged Victory.
  • Historically significant emission as part of the Triple Triumph for victories of Illyricum, Actium and Egypt (defeat of Anthony and Cleopatra in naval and ground campaigns). The reverse of this denarius appears to commemorate the Naval Victory at Actium with Octavian represented as Neptune.  
  • Obverse: Winged head of Victory right.
  • Reverse: CAESAR DIVI F, Octavian as Neptune, nude with cloak and parazonium at his side, standing left, placing his right foot on large globe set on ground and holding aplustre in his right hand and long scepter in his left hand.
