  • Reverse: SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI. Legionary Aquila (Eagle) between two vexillum.
  • Legionary Standards were emblems adopted by units of the Roman army. There were three main types of standard: Aquila, Vexillum, Signum. Aquila was the eagle emblem of a Roman legion. Vexillum was the emblem of a legion, cohort, numerus or detachments was a flag attached to the top of the pole. Signum was a standard for each century (80 men).
