Regular price $2,995.00

  • Very Good England (Great Britain) hammered sterling silver crown (5 shillings) coin.
  • Struck for King James I at the Tower Mint, 1603-1604, 1621-1623.
  • Thistle mm, S-2652, approx 43mm.
  • Possibly a transitional type with the thistle mintmark (1603-1604, 1621-1623) typically associated with the 1st and 3rd Coinages and a distinct variation in the finish of the top and side garnishes on the reverse shield. The thistle itself is of the style more commonly seen on the exceptionally rare 1st Issue Crown.
  • An intriguing specimen for the Crown specialist.
  • Certified by NGC to VG 10.
  • Colorfully toned.
  • Obverse: King crowned and in armor with sword over right shoulder, on horseback right, IACOBVS. D G MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB REX, (James, by the grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland).
  • Reverse: garnished shield, QVAE DEVS CONIVNXIT NEMO SEPARET (What God hath joined together let no man put asunder).
