Rare type struck for Caesar Antoninus Pius at the Rome Mint during the reign of his adoptive father Emperor Hadrian.
Caesar was used by emperors to designate their heirs, who would later adopt the title of Augustus when they became emperor. The title originated from the cognomen of Julius Caesar.

Reverse: TRIB POT COS, Pietas standing left by altar raising right hand.
Pietas is a Goddess of duty, loyalty and piety.
Alludes to the adoption of Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus by Antoninus Pius to ensure the smooth succession to the next generation.
