Coast Guard Coins Still a Small Niche

Challenge coins from all branches have been soaring onto the collecting front but still the Coast Guard lacks the constant feed of new additions to many displays around the world. This could be attributed to the size of the branch or the lack of interests in commands making them. Either way there are still many voids that need to filled in this area. As new coins come out we want to highlight them and show the world the great nautical coins hitting the market each day. This is not only important for individuals looking for these coins but also to show the Coast Guard is showing their stuff off as well.

So the question is still where are they? When will we start seeing an increase in their coins? We hope the answer will be soon as they are one of the best arms of force America has to offer.

What’s going on coasties? It’s been a little while since I got some good writing on here. I know I have been slacking but I was home for a little while near the USCG Academy in New London, CT. That’s where I grew up so I am all to familiar even though I was never a coastie I have a true love for the branch. I have a lot of cool new things I will be sharing with everyone in the next few weeks. Some cool Coast guard things like coins and pins. Are any Academy grads out there reading this blog? We would love to hear from you. Also if you have something of interest you want to write about you can send it in and share it with the wrold on our blog.

We are hoping to get this ramped up for the new year and put some quality information out there. On a side note we have been working with a new website trying to help them get on the feet. If you haven’t seen MilBid.com yet we ask everyone to check it out. This new site is supporting the military (yes that includes the coasties…gesh…) through auctions. Please if you get a chance to swing by and register and check out some of the sellers already on board over there. They need us all to keep things alive.

U.S. Coast Guard Academy

I grew up in Norwich, CT and it’s only about 10 minutes from the U.S. Coast guard Academy. I really feel that the USCG is an under rated branch to serve in. It’s obviously a different way to serve but still it’s very respectable. Of all the branches they certainly have the least going on with challenge coins but I think this is even starting to increase. I never joined the Coast guard and I know of only two people throughout my life that has served. It’s simply amazing how little people talk or know about the branch.

I think a big goal of this blog is to help promote the existence of the USCG through the eyes of challenge coins and other collectible items. This kind of eye opening really starts at the heart of it all which I believe is the Coast Guard Academy. Officers should take pride and spread the word however they can and often it’s through making collectibles and handing them out. Now the question is, how do we help them spread this?

Whether defending the coast against terrorists or running the war against drug trafficking the Coast guard is a vital part of the United States Homeland Security. This blog is to chat and discuss not only the Coast guard but the coins that are made for them in celebration of the mission they do. Challenge coins help show the units, Commanders, and missions off and many collector’s are big into collecting them. This blog will show off new coin releases and provide cool information in the hobby.
